Why does my non-stick griddle fluctuate in heat?

I have a non-stick griddle by Black&Decker that I always use to cook pancakes on but I always have this problem that occurs and it's really annoying. Unlike any other griddle where you can just cook all the pancakes the same at the same temperature, mine hardly heats up. Like I will have it on a heat and then the first couple will be good but then it like shuts off for a bit and when i flip them, it doesnt cook right and the only way to get the heat back is to turn up the heat, but then it just goes away again. So it takess me forrevvvverr to make pancakes and theyre not that crispy golden that I want. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks alot. :D
