Help??? music player for non technical person ....?

Hi. I am an older lady not from the electronics generation. I have occasion to go to nursing homes as a volunteer and cheer up the people with music. (they love it).. HOWEVER, I was using cds and inexpensive portable cd players. Now I notice they are not so available to buy, everyone is doing stuff on the computer but I dont know how, or what I need to do or buy. Can one of you smart people tell me what I would need , and how I would go about doing it, Getting some kind of equipment easily carried that can be plugged in that plays music and sounds ok????
