Is it ok for a police officer to run a red light?

I am faced with a dilemma. My truck was struck by a police cruiser that had just the lights on. We had the green light and the police officer at full speed struck the back passenger side throwing the truck into a spin and totaling the truck. My question is should that officer have slowed down instead of trying to go through the intersection at about 50 to 60 mph? philadelphia
