Installing bench seats in a modern car?

Are there any companies that instal bench seats in a modern car (PT Cruiser)? As i'm the only one of my friends who can drive they rely on me to take them to campus. I have thought about stuffing the sixth person in the trunk but if i get caught i could get into trouble with the cops. I can't afford a new car (eg people carrier) and have no desire to sell my ride as it has loads of room inside. In older cars with bench seats the handbrake is moved to the driver's left (or right in the uk). But what can be done about the shifter?
