Have a Black and Decker DR650 drill but don't know what the switches are for?

Whats a "Hammer Drill?" Do I pound on stuff with it; I'd like to at this point because I have no idea what the switch on top and the one below the motor does? The Black & Decker web site is about the most useless site I've seen.
