Should I Get A Motorcycle?

Hello, I'm 17 years old and was contemplating getting a cruiser style motorcycle, because I've always been intrigued by them and wanted to become a rider. The only times I would basically ride it is to school and back in order to save gas money. Possibly sometimes on the weekend in close proximity to my house. I, trying to be humble, honestly have a lot to live for and don't want to get in a crash and become paralyzed or dead. I'm very responsible and never speed and I would drive fairly defensively, mainly trying to get away from any cars. So would it be worth it to get the motorcycle under these circumstances. I live in south Florida if anyone has any bearing on how accidents are down here and how often they occur. Thanks! (PS I'd never want to ride a Ninja, just any type of Harley style cruiser)
