Was this an okay purchase?

My boyfriend works full time as a dish installer/t.v installer. I dont know much about tools but when he called this morning to tell me his drill gave out and he spent 180 on a new one...I WAS LIVID! That in my opinion when living paycheck to paycheck with 3 kids to feed was a STUPID purchase. However, i dont want to be mad without reason. He stated that he got the cheapest kind of drill for the work he does and that without the drill he cant work. Now Ive been searching drills online for the last 2 hours...walmart, kmart, target, farm and fleet and lowes(where he purchased it) and have found many many many drills for a cheaper price. I understand black and decker is a cheaper brand, but they have other brands who sell drills for around 100 dollars. Do I have a right to be mad about this purchase, and could he have done with a cheaper drill (only needed to last up to 6 months, that would have given us time to save for a more expensive one.)
