Did the police have the right to search and arrest me? Any other thoughts?
My friends and I were on our way to a concert, so we went to the parking garage and parked. As soon as we parked we got the ecstasy out of the bag. As we were doing this a police patrol was driving by us in the parking garage. Literally seconds after we parked. I saw them in my rear view mirror and told my friends. We were all startled because we had ecstasy in our hands. In my mirror, I watched the police stop directly behind my vehicle, say something to each other, and get out of their cruiser. At this point, I know the pills were not visible for the officers to see. Instead of destroying the pills, or just taking them, I dropped mine on the floor, one of my friends put his back in his bag and my other friend shoved hers up her shorts. My car was already turned off and parked at this point. So I got out of my car an officer opened my passenger door and told my friends to get out. I was patted down, and made to put my hands on my trunk and my two friends were forced to get in to the back of their cruiser. I was told to lean against the front bumper of their cruiser. The officers began to search my vehicle and my friends bag. The officers did not turn on their lights or ask permission to search my vehicle. I did not do anything to draw attention from the officers. Unless being young, looking at them and sitting in my parked car are reasons to get searched. As I was watching the officers search my vehicle I asked why was I being searched, the officer kindly replied, "ARE YOU A LAW STUDENT!?!" I told him, "No, but why are you searching my vehicle" he then made me get in the cruiser because he "didn't want to talk to me right them". I was arrested for Possession of Ecstasy.
